There is an important point to remember if you are copying, pasting, or moving footnotes in this way, and that has to do with Track Changes. All you need to do is use Ctrl+X in step 2 instead of the noted Ctrl+C. If you instead want to move a footnote to another location in your document (or even in another document), you can use similar techniques. If you are using auto-numbered footnotes, all the footnotes in your document are renumbered. The footnote reference mark is inserted in your document, and the associated footnote is added to the footnotes section.
Position the insertion point at the location where you want to copy the footnote. The footnote reference mark and the associated footnote are copied to the Clipboard. Highlight the footnote reference mark in your document. If you have previously inserted footnotes into your document and you want to duplicate a footnote, you can use techniques you already know for copying regular text. Any existing and new footnotes will have this style as well.Word implements a full-featured footnote system that allows you almost total control over where and how footnotes are printed. The style will change and become the default but only in this document. Choose Update Footnote Text to Match Selection from the list. Right mouse click the Footnote Text style . You can also modify the spacing, colour and anything else you can do with text. Select the text in the Footnote and using the Home tab, choose your Font style and size. There are a few ways to do this but this is the easiest. With the text in the Footnote selected, you should see the style (Footnote Text) highlighted (3) with a blue box around it.. A styles pane appears at the right of your screen. Click the Dialog box launcher icon (1) in the bottom right corner of the group (See diagram).

The footnote Style probably won't appear in the Style Gallery on the Home tab, so you need to locate it in the Styles pane. You can change the Footnote text to a different Font and/or size using its own Style (called Footnote Text), so it's just a matter of locating and modifying the style.
By default your Footnote text is the same Style as your Normal style but with a smaller font size, usually 10pt.
